  • Reasons for Nipple Surgery and What to Expect Afterwards

Nipple surgery is a subject that isn't freely talked about by many people, but it is more common than you may expect. The reasons for having nipple surgery vary but the most common reasons are because of having inverted nipples which can cause functional and emotional issues for women that have them, and nipple surgery is also done for women who want to cut down the size of their nipples.

Nipple inversion is probably one of the biggest reasons a woman would want to consider nipple surgery because the condition can dramatically affect sensation in the area, leaving women to feel un-alive at times so to speak.

But it is also something that can make women feel inferior to others whether there is just cause or not. There are different variations of nipple inversion so the surgery to fix the issue varies, but the most common nipple surgery for nipple inversions can be done under local anesthesia as an outpatient.

What this means for women thinking of having the nipple surgery is a quicker than most healing period. It is not uncommon for a woman to have one inverted nipple while the other is normal, and this can raise even more interest in having the surgery done.

And although inverted nipples do not affect the ability to breastfeed, this fact simply isn't enough for most women. After nipple surgery, women can expect to feel sore and tired for the first few days.

Dressings are used to keep the nipple area clean and free from infection while offering extra support and comfort during the healing phase. Because many times women have nipple surgery to generate feeling back into the area, it can be a surprise or disappointment when there is even less feeling in the nipple area right after having the surgery.

The feeling loss or lack thereof is due to swelling in the nipple area, and feeling does return or become gained once swelling goes down and the area has had a few days to heal. You will probably be able to start showering within two days of the surgery, and you should expect to feel back to normal within 7-10 days.

All in all, nipple surgery to correct things like inverted nipples is a short surgery that does not require a lengthy hospital stay and the recovery process is easy to handle and over in about a week.

Unlike surgery for breast enlargements, this surgery is not dangerous and will not create the possibility of having health issues of any kind!
